WHAT IS SEX THERAPY?

Sex therapy is a type of talk therapy designed to help individuals and couples address medical, psychological, personal, or interpersonal factors impacting sexual satisfaction.
The goal of sex therapy is to help people move past physical and emotional challenges to have a satisfying relationship and pleasurable sex life.
Sex therapy is designed to address sexual issues such as:
Difficulty with sexual desire or arousal, Low confidence Impulsive or compulsive sexual behaviorErectile functioningEjaculating early Trouble reaching orgasm Painful intercourseIntimacy issues related to a disability or chronic condition Concerns regarding past unwanted sexual experiences Distressing sexual thoughtsUnwanted sexual fetishes
In many cases, people participate in sex therapy on a short-term basis (though in some cases, an ongoing or longer-term approach to therapy is needed). A specific treatment plan will rely heavily on the individual needs of the person or couple in therapy. Sex therapy never involves sexual activity or touching of any kind with the therapist.
There are several reasons why a person might choose to seek sex counseling, but it is most often recommended for anyone whose quality of life is affected by their sexual function or desire and/or for anyone having problems with anyone having problems with intimacy within a relationship, regardless of age, gender, or background.
It May Help to Bring Your Partner to Sex Therapy But It’s Not Necessary
Remember, sex therapy is for everyone. You do not have to be in a relationship to participate in sex therapy.
